Foodbank vouchers

Referral Agencies & Voucher info

We know that anyone can find themselves at a crisis point for all sorts of reasons. Don’t sit and worry, ask for support. We don’t judge, we are just here to help when that happens.

We work with many different organisations and agencies to increase our reach into the community, and to make us more effective. This is also so that we can guide you to the most appropriate help for your circumstances and situation. Details of some of these groups are listed below.

You can contact us about your situation, and we will guide you appropriately, but please do not just call-in hoping to get a voucher straightaway, our processes require that we direct you to one of our referral organisations so they can issue a voucher for you. The Foodbank does not issue vouchers.

If you would like to access the foodbank then you should contact one of our referral organisations and arrange to speak with them, or to visit, to explain your situation. If you are struggling to put food on the table they can issue you with a foodbank voucher – which may be a paper voucher or an e-voucher. The local agency may also be able to provide additional support to help tackle the issues which have put you in difficulty, or crisis.

When you visit the referral agency they will take some basic details from you to verify your situation before they complete the voucher. This will help them to identify the cause of your crisis and offer practical guidance. It also means we are able to prepare suitable emergency food for the right number of people. Please take any supporting documents to evidence of your situation when you visit the referral organisation.

Once you have been issued with a voucher, you can exchange this for a food parcel which will be sized to suit the number of people in your household, and it will contain a variety of items to provide you with at least three days of emergency food.

If your situation is such that you may need a series of food parcels, this is allowed but you can only attend the foodbank once a week, and the number of times you can use the foodbank over a period of time is limited.

Please be aware: We are here to help but there is no automatic entitlement to a foodbank voucher. Being in work or not doesn’t matter, being on benefits or not doesn’t matter, if you are eligible for support we will give it to you. Food is donated to us for the specific purpose of helping people in crisis therefore we need to check this.

We understand that it can be hard to ask for help, and we are not trying to make getting that help any more difficult, however our referral agencies have to verify your situation and their decision is final. We are able to track multiple-agency applications. Your understanding is appreciated.

If you are a support worker, or an organisation that supports people facing need or crisis, and you would like to become one of our registered referral agencies please contact us to find out more.
